• UNDERSTAND the importance of a good thesis statement.

• COMPOSE a thesis statement, as part of the planning process.

• CONSIDER audience and purpose for writing.

• UNDERSTAND the importance of outlining main and supporting ideas.

• ORGANIZE main and supporting points via an outline.

• UNDERSTAND the importance of doing research as part of the writing process.

• DISCUSS guidelines for effective writing.

• WRITE a well-focused five – paragraph essay.

• EXPLORE revising as a process.

• REVISE the five - paragraph essay.

• EXPLORE Seven Steps To Non-Sexist Writing.
